"CONSUMED"

Rachael Haigh

Maybe it was moments we mistook for love.

You’d give me attention,
Feed me beer and other fun things

But there was space between the lines.

Somewhere within that space, there was too much swooning
To the point where I was dizzy.

Besides, I was beginning to smell like imposition
And the loneliness became sterile in a way that no longer
Brought the relief it used to

When I overly think about things
Its things of death, of grief, of loss
And choosing to lose

It's the seduction of the cold river,
Of a crash

You were the first beautiful thing
I got stuck on.

In 6 months time,
we will no longer talk,
and he will inevitably find someone pretty
