TWO POEMS

Rachael Haigh

Untitled 1

Male decedent, remains charred.
Dodge, Dodge Ram: Truck, Red Paint
Smashed, impacted with tree
Off the interstate 55
Fire resulting from
Impact
In pike county
4:35 christmas eve
Death came and went

Untitled 2

New Orleans night,
Waiting for the streetcar
In the cold wind,
Cigarette smoke whips
Down across the street
Tapping boot heels
On the cracked concrete
Thinking of books
And 2$ beers in the cold
Streetcar comes
Sit down n think
Of the sum whole
Of human experience
The streets can be
Laughter echoing
From half slept dreams
We lie in wait
Gemstone rains
We have no ambitions
Beyond this place
A million glassy
Eyes track you
As you fall
Into the dark
Behind your
Feigned sleep
Eventually, day comes
Reality picks itself
Up from the ground
No more dream
Escapes
In New Orleans night
